Automatic transmission problem (daily driver)...
it's an '02 grand cherokee I6 4.0
I think it's the torque converter... but i'm not sure.
Scenario: I'm standing still at a stop sign, I let go of the brake and apply the gas to normally accelerate away, the stall seems to be higher than normal like it's having a tough time moving and then finally i feel a catch and i go along my way...
it also has a werid time find a gear sometimes (takes a little while or shifts from 1 to 2 back to 1 for a second and hops back to 2) when i accelerate having the pedal pressed in the same exact spot the entire time.
same thing when turning and accelerating, i give it gas, the rpm climbs a little (just under 2k) on a 5.5k redline, then it catches and goes.
What could the problem be? transmission fluid is fine... the car is not driven hard whatsoever, and currently sits at 57k miles.

First I'll ask the obvious dumb question. Have you checked the transmission fluid level?
If it's O.K., did the transmission fluid look red?
As the fluid deteriorates the color changes from red, to orange/brown, to brown, to dark brown, to black. If it's black you're in trouble. If is smells like burnt oil you may be in trouble.
I don't thiink the problem is the torque convertor. It's more likely low pressure to the clutch drum(s) (possibly due to a clogged filter) or worn clutches.
I would first try replacing the transmission filter, located in the transmission pan.
When you remove the pan check for debris (a small amount of tiny flakes is normal). If there is a lot of debris your transmission is in big trouble.
