I don't look at the color palette for every car made, but the cars that interest me seem to have very limited color options. They usually include black, white, three versions of silver/gray, a dark red and maybe a blue of some sort...maybe not. Is this some sort of trend in the market? It just all looks depressing to me.

You must like European cars. Very conservative. Especially higher end models. The s class comes in like 300 shades of black, silver, and gray.

porsche and lambo offers green.
ferrari offers any colors the buyer wants - as long as the buyer is willing to pay up.

Lexus is pretty boring. My wife brought home the RX brochure and lamented that they do not have any shade of blue for the 2016 model year.

The "lux" cars from the likes of BMW, MB, Audi, Lexus, etc, are mostly color neutral because they are easier to resell, which is probably important when most of them are originally leased. While you can get a "louder" color, you'd have to factory order it since the chances of finding one on the lot can be very low.

And I know the RC at least comes in blue... maybe your wife should buy one of those instead.

Maybe VW can bring back this color, I say this is far from boring On topic though I like BMW's color pallet of the M3 right now. They got a little bolder even with stock colors.
