Default before you click on this thread...How much do you

I was talking to a woman who has a CTS-V. She is totally not the type of person you would thing. She's 50 years old maybe 5' 1" and a bit round in the middle.

NE way she told me the tires cost $500 each. I didn't say anything, but in my mind I said I doubt that.

So I look on Tirerack and sure enough they are ~$389 each but if yoyu pay for mounting etc. could be $1700 for a set of four (est. with tax) so about $450 each and probably a re-seller is more expensive than tirerack

So I got to looking on tirerack how much do tires cost? (set of four, not including mounting, shipping or tax).

Yaris = $276

S2000 = $694

Lotus Elise = $916

CTS-V = $1572

Z06 = $1560

Carrera GT = $1600

RR Phantom = $3352 ($809 front each, $867 rear each)

Note: this is for OEM tires (caddy and Vette and RR are run-flat tires). You can get cheaper tires but it's something to thing about a CTS-V set of tires costs twice as much as a S2000s tires

^ I dunno about tires, but I think he said wheels are $4K per. That's sounds off, though. $16K just for wheels. I didn't think the car was THAT much more expensive than a loaded 750i, but I could be wrong. I just put new tires on our FX35 with 18" wheels for $790 mounted and balanced. I thought that was decent. I also punctured one of my 20" tires, and it was around $300, I think.

"And those 21-inch Michelins, well, they cost $550 apiece to replace. How do we know? Don't worry about it. Just keep the B7's stability control on or be ready to write a large check to your local tire shop." -edmunds

I think with the CTS-V some people may not be used to sports car (summer tires) and not realize what the tires cost. I mean if you only have normal cars and think tires are $200 (something) each and then you see how quick the CTS-V goes thru tires at $1600 a set.

That'll be a sticker shock for some people.

I just put those since they were the most expensive OEM tires I could see.

well, we're both wrong. Tires are $17,000, the wheels are $43,000.
