Default Ben-Hur lug nuts?

New trend? Over the weekend I walked past a gaudily-decorated Acura 4-door (RL? Who knows and who cares), and the aftermarket wheels were held on by lug nuts with a, hmm, perhaps 1.5" conical spike sticking out of each. What is this, and why? A new look-at-me trend? Rather like this:

Ricing out your lug nuts has been a trend for a few years now. This is just another iteration of that trend.

Looks like a law suit waiting to happen. You're insurer is not going to be very happy if there's a claim against you due to that.
