Default BEST CAR FOR 30k

Aside from s2k/evo/sti/corvette

What is your recommendation?

Car can be new, or no more than 2-3 years old.

any number of doors are fine. any engine is fine. has to be a manual tranny. topless or not doesn't matter.

major requirement: Car has to be a performance car and HAS TO BE RELIABLE.

Comfort doesn't matter. Practicality doesn't matter. Minimum 2 seats.

Let me hear some recommendations for $30K.

Why do you have to take away the Vette? C5 Z06 is the best performance car for $30K

I'd throw a bone to Ford Mustang GT for ~$25k or GTO if you can get a 6.0L for ~$30k

Get an RSX-S and add a blower for thousands under $30K.

Honestly, if you take away the Evo, STi, S2k, and Vette I can't really think of any other car I'd want to have in the $30k neighborhood.

Minimum 2 seats... umm are you referring to any bikes?

Anyone know what the 03-04 S/C Mustang Cobras go for these days? One of those wouldn't probably be too bad either.

E46 M3's should be coming down into low 30's soon if not already. I've driven several cars, SMG and regular and I didn't buy one over my Z06. The dealer that I was at (used) even had the color I would have wanted in the M3. (white on cinnamon) I just don't really care for the car though. Engine sounds like poo IMO. It just wasn't enough to say "yes, I want to trade the S2000 for this car." Love the oversteer characteristics of the car though. You can hang the rear out all day.

I say if you want rear drive, either Corvette or S2000 are the cars. If you want 4 wheel drive, EVO or STi are great cars as well.

Here are some suggestions:
  • 1. 2006 Subaru Legacy GT
  • 2. 2006 Pontiac GTO 6.0 Litre
  • 3. 2004 VW R32 (CPO)
  • 4. 2001-2 Audi S4 (B5 - CPO)
  • 5. Mazda 6 Speed (due to arrive September)
  • 6. 2006 Civic Si (due to arrive September-October)

I would have said Integra Type R but if you want new I guess I mean the RSX-S, a bit softer but still a fun front-wheel-drive car.

And then it also depends on your idea of "performance." I like the look of the new Mustangs and all but the GT convertible are <$30K. If curves are your thing then how can you ignore the Miata? Great handling car and stone reliable.

Are we talking the whole $30-40k spectrum? The corvette invoice price is $38k, but msrp is more like $43k. I would consider it a more of a $40k car.
