Default Best Engine...

I know many people consider the S2000 engine to be one of the best production engines in the world, and I was wondering what other engines would be put in this category as well. I was thinking that the 6.1 liter from the Mclaren F1 is pretty darn amazing, the 4.2 liter inline 6 from the Jaguar E-type is supposed to be a great engine, and I suppose the small block chevy should probably be added to the list as well.

What do you guys think?

What other engines should be allowed on the top of the list with the great
F20C?

I guess you could say the Mercedes AMG e7.3 litre engine that you get with the Pagani Zonda C12s.

Then there is the legendary V6 Rover engine that lasted 30 years, in many varying types of vehicle.

Trying to think of more...

Sorry, first post was supposed to say V8 Rover!

The Cosworth engines should get a mention too.

I'm of the opinion that the very best engines are the ones that get used decade after decade, in model after model.

- Chrysler slant six
- Chevy small block V8
- BMW straight six
- VW sideways 4

Chevy small block 350
RB26DETT
2JZ-GTE
787B engine

imho the f20c doesn't belong in this conversation. maybe with the best 4 cyls in production right now, but no the best engine of all time. everything its does well, there's another engine that does it better. even with its vaunted hp/ltr ratio gets trumped big time by the rotaries.

I like big block with over 600 hp so my vote goes to GM new ZZ572 crate engines with either 9.6:1 620hp or 12:1 version with 720 HP.
