I can't believe you mentioned MB's and Jaguars I-6 and not BMW's...the other two can't touch BMW's I-6, it's the motor that catapulted them to where they are now which is the measuring stick in the sport sedan segment.

Hmm... Interesting.
Best engines in the world gotta be V12. Lamborghini started as a tractor manufacturer, so the high horsepower engines was a must. They're definitely one of the best.

Carrera GT's 5.4L V10

Although it's actually a 5.7 liter. 605hp, 435lb-ft, 8400rpm. The best sounding exhaust I've ever heard in my life.

The displacement based rule means GM will never get credit for producing a 400hp 5.7L V8 that gets mileage equal to our cars.
Then again this gets back into the power/liter argument.

The problem with those awards is they are displacement based. Thus a heavy small displacement motor with high specific power (say VW 1.8T) does better than a larger displacement but lighter motor (say Honda's 2.4L I4). Even if the Honda motor has the same power and better economy. In this case I'm thinking of the engine in my Dad's '98 Passat vs the motor in my Mom's '99 Honda Accord.

There is no "displacement based rule." In the 4.0 liter and above category, the contestants were:
Volkswagen Diesel 5-litre (Touareg/Phaeton) 199
BMW 4.4-litre Valvetronic (545i, X5, 645i, 745i) 129
Mercedes-AMG 6-litre (S65, CL65) 111
Ferrari 5.7-litre (612) 94
Aston Martin 5.9-litre (DB9, Vanquish) 91
Chrysler/Dodge 5.7-litre (300C/Magnum) 88
