Default best helmet

I recently picked up a 96 cbr 600 f3, anyone want to direct me to some quality helmets without putting a hole in my wallet? Some info on riding gear/how much to spend would be much appreciated, thanks.

i usually buy a upper end shoei brand, they seem to fit good enough. the fit is important. full face helmet with mirror tinted visor. I would opt for the lightest strongest helmet.
-shoei offers different size replacement inner liners
-i try on a few in the stores and buy on line, ebay works
-must have no scratches
-the tightest fitment that i can wear for 3-4 hours
-the snell rating is falling out of favor
-usaly get a tinted visor that i wear day/night
-get a light color, black not so cool in the summer.

some of the Roof helmets look different:

As long as it is Snell/DOT rated, the protection will be fine. Spending more $$$ gets improvements in:

- ventilation
- comfort
- weight
- graphics
- coveted brand names

Everyone's head is shaped a little different, try on many helmets to see how they fit. I have an Arai head, others prefer Shoei. There are other good options, but you can't go wrong w/ a mid-upper end helmet from one of those two brands!

Pretty much.

I didn't go cheap on gear, I think I rather go cheaper on the bike than gear imo.

Vemar makes a good helmet, the VSR. Very light, great visibility, awesome fit (for me), DOT and ECE ratings, and the best part is the price.

Go to newenough.com or ebay for gear.

You might as well not bother with one at all

Chris S is right, Motorcyclist did a test ,I think last year, where the best protection actually came from one of the cheapest helmets. More money gets higher quality fit and finish and extras, but not necessarily better protection.
