Maybe their engineers have been eating too much hamburgers!

I think cars getting heavier and heavier isn't just an Audi problem.

It's a general problem, due to laws (especially in the U.S.) trying to make cars safer.

That and all the luxury items thrown into cars these days.

I love our S. It is still very light. (Relatively speaking of course)

I don't know about bad reliability, my fathers last one went 120k with zero problems. Sold it to someone I know at work for his son and still no problems a year later.

Every time I drove his I did not find it that fun to drive. It was the 3 liter 5 spd I think. It was too "soft". I am sure the RS4 is a completely different animal, but I just was not a big fan of the driving experience and don't like the new nose. I would rather take a BMW 3 series AWD. More elegant looking IMHO.

What 4-door sports sedan over 400hp has ever been light?

Evo FQ 400.

I think you needed to throw in the word "Luxury". It's pretty hard to make a luxury car light. Too much sound proofing.

absolutely.

@ 4000 lbs, i'd rather get a full sized sedan - a 750i comes to mind (even at 4400 lbs.)...and BMW claims 6.1 to 100km/h

no matter how much HP you throw at a 4000 lb car, it'll still leave you wanting....

The engineers in Japan weren't happy with the weight.

As a reference, Audi lists the standard S4's curb weight at 3825lbs. While the RS4 adds some equipment, there are also weight saving features such as light-weight seats (that look really sweet by the way). Doesn't seem too bad for a 4 door considering a 996 Turbo comes in at 3505lbs.

RE: price, again using the S4 as a ref, that $55k sounds very optimistic

Who really cares about the weight, it's a 4-door sedan, daily driver. It's not meant to go up against an EVO or STi. I think it looks sweet, and 400 hp will get you going fast even if it does weight 4000 lbs.
