better performance?? s2k or M coupe
this is the break down if I were to purchase the s2k
32800
+2500 tax
+3000 Hardtop
+2000 wheels
+5000 or more vortech S/C or comptech
and then warranty is voided
this is a rough estimate but that would put it at 45+k for the s2k and then you would still suffer without the options in the M3
I read several posts about the s/c and not very happy with the reliability. I know that problems arise with the S/C and I'm not very savy with cars so even a little fix would be way to complicated for me.
Someone stated that the M3 was known for blown rods but wasn't there a problem with s2k differentials blowing??
I don't know...I love the S but can't live with it just stock
I would probably spend the same amt of $$ with the modded S as I would with the Stock M3.
Stock 333 hp is more reliable in the long run than a modded 340 hp S/C s2k right???
no offense to the Z06 but I was never a fan of chevy, My first chevy was an s10 pickup and my parents have owned over 5 different chevy's and reliabilitly is poor. I bought the s10 new in 96 and had a five year warranty and over the five years, over 15 thousand in repairs from starters(notice I mentioned starters) to crack head. Basically everything has been replaced twice (thank god for warranty) Scares me to purchase a 55+k Z06 and have it in the shop every month.

M coupe = 2 door hard topped tail happy little rocket.
M3 = 2 door sedan.

M3 does have a soft top but thats another 10k...dont really like the looks of the soft top on the car
Also remember that the M3 convertible is substantially slower than the M3 coupe. I t runs almost the same time as S2K (13.7 vs. 13.8), is almost 1000 lbs. heavier (3700 lbs. vs. 2800 lbs.) and way more expensive. The Comptech supercharger had a few instances of differential housings going out, but that is a $400 fix, vs. throwing rods = new engine. Who needs wheels and a hardtop on the S2K ? If you get a coupe (like the solidity of the coupe design, need four seats) get the M3, otherwise the S2K. If your are coming from a japanese car you may like the 4 banger, if not you really better drive it first to see if you can handle the low end torque characteristics.
it snows hard here in NY..reason for the hardtop..keeps it warmer in the winter...it doesn't look as bad when you drive a sports car with a hard top in the winter...i think it looks silly in the winter with a hardtop..looks outta place

Is this a serious thread?

However, I digress. Even if the thread ISN'T serious, it IS valid.
Sorry, just felt like being verbose this morning...
You really have to ask yourself what you want in a car. I got my s2ooo as a second car to my navigator so I didn't want to spend too much money. I wanted a fast convertable than was fun to drive and practicallity was not a major concern.
The m3 coupe is faster, better in adverse conditions, has more creature comforts, but isn't as tossable and is $14k more in its cheapest form ($21k more when properly optioned out).
The M3 convertible is a bit heavier and less aerodynamic and therefore a bit closer to the s2ooo in performance and sets you back $22k more base ($26k more properly optioned).
In all these cars you get what you pay for. If it was my only car, and I didn't live in MI, I would go M3 all the way.
