MCoupe is out of production as of last month, I believe, so you won't be able to place an order for one.

As for the M3 versus S2000, they're two very different cars.

I don't consider the M3 a sports car, and while I like it and respect it a lot, it doesn't make my heart race when I see one. The S2000 does - and more and more the more I spend time with mine.

A friend of a friend just got an M3 Cabriolet with SMG II and a ton of options. Apparently was north of $60k. My friend who has ridden in it but hasn't driven it, was disappointed in it in the flesh. For some reason he thought the interior was of a low quality, but it seems fine to me, and he said the ride is unbelievably stiff.

I don't know, if it was me, I don't really need the practicality, extra seats, extra creature comforts, bling-bling BMW factor, OR the extra weight of the M3. Nor do I need the extra price or my engine blowing up when I least expect it.

However, BMW will be coming out with more focused sports cars in the future. I'm really interested in the upcoming Z5, that will replace the MCoupe sometime in the next couple of years.

So if it were me, I'd go S2000 - it's the true spiritual successor to the best M3 - the E30 M3.

 

I'd take an M3 over a $45K S2000 anyday...I've driven one, and was impressed enough to put in at the top of my eventual S2000 replacement list.

The Comptech S/C didn't really impress me...all the power is at the high end, so it only exacerbates the F20C's stock peakiness.

 

a friend of mine bought a M3 conv. non-SMG II for $59k. That thing weighs 3760 lbs, BUT it flies like a MF! maybe its the torque, and the metallic engine rasp in a convertible.

I think a M3 with SMG II is one of the greatest choices in today's market. I would go with a M3.

btw, s2krob, have u looked at the M3 CSL- it weighs 3000lbs, and is faster than a 911 GT3, does THAT qualify it for being a "sports car" IUO(in your opinion).

 

When I said the M3 isn't a sports car, I meant to say it is a sports coupe. More practical and more touring-like than the purest sports cars. After only 2 months with the S2000, I don't think I can ever go back to anything with more than 2 seats again.

And I must honestly say that the M3 Cab is one ugly-ass car with the roof up.

 

I think you should go with the M3.
