Go naked. SV650 comes to mind. Lightweight, torquey and cheap.

I learned on a GPz305 too. Brings back memories. back then, there weren't many cars doing 14 sec quarters, so it was fast enough to keep you ahead of traffic around town.
i am pretty sure we are the only two people to ever ride a GPZ305. I put "ninja" stickers on mine.... fool the ladies....

I think it had a 120 or 130 rear tire... now 180-190 is norm.... shesh.

My first bike was an Katana. It was heavy but comfortable and after riding that my R6 felt like a racebike as far as weight and steering go. After riding several brands (Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, and Triumph) I'm all about Yamaha these days. They just give me what I need, total all around performance. If you want something to mod and trick out you can't beat Suzuki, more of them out there and parts are everywhere. For comfort and riding with a passenger any length of time go Honda.

Just my .02,

Got a 600r as my first bike and was pretty easy to learn on. Ergonomics a plus and not ridiculously powerful compared to other 600s. Handling mistakes more forgiving due to it's weight and softer suspension. It's been out since 97 but still looks good and price pretty cheap too. Check out "reviews" link here for the 600r http://www.martijn-online.com/thundercat/

[QUOTE=ElTianti,Aug 13 2004, 07:32 AM] First time rider should purchase the most HP they can afford. The less experience you have the more power you need. If money

take the safe class, it is good info, and it is way easier than the dmv test, and you get a discount on your ins!

a dirt bike is the best to learn, if you get a street bike get the frame guards. good luck
