I definitely catch myself driving faster and more aggressively in the M5 than in my built 240Z or my old S. At highway speeds it's so damn quiet and feels planted.. Look down and you're doing 95...

What are the stereotype for other marques? Is there a site that has a list?

It is funny people mentioned Prius, about 50% of the time I see somebody doing 85 in a 55 it is a Prius driver. It is almost like half are saving the earth by driving slow and the other feel they can drive 85 because they are saving so much gas.

My brother notices the same thing and he drives one, but he says that the mileage in a Prius is great up to 70mph and then drops fast. He claims he gets in the mid to high 30's if he does 75 and declines fast so driving a Prius fast is not even worth it. You could have a car that gets pretty close to the same mileage but is far cooler. But yes, you would lose the smug.

If you have a lowered Civic, you must be a street racer.

Porsche = Prick
New studies show that more women are buying these and not just b/c their husband said so, they are actually buying them b/c they want them.

Corvette = old dude that likes to tell stories and only talk about their car(s).

It goes both ways. Back in college I bought a used 3 series, a 2000 323CI in fact for $10,000. The minute I got that car, despite it being like a 7 years old at the time, EVERYONE started treating me differently. Went to subway at least 3 times a day living off of chicken teriyaki and cold cut sandwiches being broke in college and they knew me there and when i showed up in the bimmer they immediately starting addressing me sir. Which meant a big tip was expected. I went to ralphs in a tie after a job interview, the guy regularly bagging stuff called me sir and probably saw the bimmer key when i swiped the key card. Someone I knew jokingly but seriously called me a yuppie and thought i grew up rich. I grew up dirt poor actually. I was 20 at the time and I thought it was a bit ridiculous people were treating me like that, they probably thought I was some young business investment banker or something.

Anyway, point being. If you drive a bimmer, despite what you may think or what you may WANT people to think, people already have a preconceived idea about who you are, how rich you are, your status in society. It comes with the price point and the perception that BMW works very hard to maintain. The reputation. So if you're driving like an asshat or cut someone off, you're the "rich guy who feels like he owns the world" or "dickhead rich guy that looks down on us normal folk". Whereas if you do that in a beatup civic people think you're just having a hard day cause you work 2 jobs. Get me?

I find it hilarious cause my car at the time cost less than a civic but people think otherwise.

From looking online, the stereotype of a BMW owner is generally not good. Don't own one and haven't come close to buying one. Not my thing, but they are nice cars. Was BMW day on Saturday near my house. I love that "frozen" paint, wow. I can see choosing that one for sure a leased car.

Gotta wonder about the UK study.

"The study of 2,837 motorists found men between the ages of 35 and 50 driving blue BMWs were most likely to be reported as having engaged in road-rage behaviors such as aggressive driving and swearing."

Sounds like it could just be one guy to me. That statistic seems oddly specific. Hate articles without links to the supposed data...

I have noticed this alot. It seems as if its all or nothing with the Prius crowd.

Down here in Floriduh it's not really a brand thing. Everyone drives like an asshole with no common courtesy and nobody uses the indicator.

I can't help but relate to this article.

My girlfriend drives a BMW X5. To others, she is a douchebag driver. Its not that she's trying to drive like a jerk; it's just that she sucks at driving in general. Every time she drives, I have to commandeer her car within halfway of the drive because I can't stand the way she operates a vehicle (tailgating without knowing it, parking ON the line in a parking lot, not signaling when changing lanes etc.). She drives in such a way that I'm always grasping the "oh shit" handle in her car. I always question her on how she ever got her license in the first place. She's never driving my S, thats for sure.

Be lucky that some douchebag bmw owners have significant others that can drive their car properly lol.

Seems that everyone in Kansas City used to reside in Florida then...same situation here. "I can drive like an ass and be completely ignorant to the fact!"
