I can't believe I'm trumping Barry to announce the prototype BMW M1. 
Only thing is...it isn't based on the 1-series.
I just knew BMW would never steal the thunder of their old supercar by making an M1 based on a sedan.

Haha..you didnt trump me man. I read that hours ago. I try to keep my BMW threads to a minimum on here...
Personally, that concept isnt all that appealing to me. BMW did trademark the M10 name not too long ago. If it comes, it will battle the LF-A, GTR, NSX, etc. I'll be pulling for the Bimmer and NSX ofcourse. It will most definitely have a twin-turbo V10 also.

Here is what a very very very reliable source says about this:
"There is no plans for production but if there were it would be an "Efficient Dynamics" showcase for environmental technology either with hydrogen or Hybrid power producing 0 emissions. in fact someone should be concerned about using the copyrighted by BMW - "M-Zero" tag.
What you have seen so far with the current "Efficient Dynamics" tech. Is just the tip of the iceberg. There are far many more developments still to come to production which will take BMW further from the competition in environmental tech.
Purists may hate it and traditionalists may despise the new direction , but it is the path BMW are on and are not going to stray from it just because someone has brought out another 15 minute vanity project."
In regards to their next supercar:
"Yes, a supercar. But not a mid-engined car. M10 ... An M-exclusive 2-seater coupe based on "new Z8" 2-seater roadster with folding hardtop. Something to fight SL BlackSeries, Astons, Ferraries, Porsches, R8 etc.
But first Z8 has to be launched, and BMW have to win F1 championship.
Mind: the "Z8 / M10" cars will feature extreme lightweight composite construction - since the cars will be "the most sporty-performance" cars in BMW model line. Even the Z8 folding roof will be "revolutionary". Yet the "M10" will be even lighter - with CF panels, and more Mg/Al parts."
Lets not get peoples hopes up Negcamber with this ''M1".

Not the best looking car but who knows, it might be one of those designs you grow to like.
