Default BMW M5 (E39: 2000-2003)

This is one of my dream cars that I would like to own once I get out of school and get a full time job. I know there is a new model coming out but there is no way I would/can spend $80K+ for a car.

I was just wondering if there are any members who have ever owned a 2000-2003 BMW M5 or has had any experience with them? I've read on the BMW M5 forums and haven't heard too many bad things about this car. My friend owns a 2001 BMW E46 M3 and he has taken it into BMW for many small warranty issues which seems to be normal for BMWs.

I know by the time I can afford and purchase the M5 it will be outdated and have high mileage (under 100,000), but I don't mind since I would want to get a good deal and keep this car for a long time. I know most M5 owners don't put that many miles on their cars, so I'm just curious on the reliability and longevity of the engine over the years.

If any one has any comments or information on problems with this model M5 please feel free to comment

Hmmm...not sure what you mean by that. Did I do something wrong by asking if anyone has any experience with a different car in "Car Talk" or do you just not like the M5?

You'd probably get better yield in the BMW forums....

I've only found one decent M5 forum, but it is nothing like this site as far as information is concerned. It's hard to follow and to find out information about all the different years and things that I should be looking out for.

I am just looking for some outsite information from people who may have owned/leased one or just knows someone who owns one. Trust me that I'll continue to visit the M5 forums that I find to read up on them since I love cars, but when I did a search on s2ki on M5's there were barely [practically none] any threads. So, I thought I would make one just to see if any s2ki members have an opinion on the car.

The E39 M5 is one amazing vehicle. After driving one all out on the track for a couple days I was pretty much sold on the fact that it is one seriously fun machine. I have previously owned an M3, and would highly recommend the E39 M5 to anyone that likes to drive.
