Don't know your price range, and assuming you want a car with more power and torque without sacrificing handling agility..

C5 Z06
C6
C6 Z06 (if you can afford this)
Cayman S
E46 M3
996 Turbo (you'd be surprised about its price now for a used one)
997 Carrera S
Lotus Elise
Ferrari 355 (somewhat getting affordable now)
MB SLK55

start tracking it.
Have you ever driven the S2000 in its natural habitat? As a track machine, it's a car of great depth and a fantastic tool for improving your driving. Without great wads of torque, the experience is all about smoothness and control. Take it to the track once, and your love for the S2000 will be reaffirmed.

Although I like the S2000, its time for something different.

I am thinking about a Boxster S, C6, or M3.

Any opinions, experience to offer?
I am in the same boat as you except I am tired of my Evolution.

A c6 with some headers and exhaust seems like the ticket.....

or a 03/04 mustang with a pully and exhaust would also work....

or a S2000 with a v8 jammed into it....

How about a Noble? Just saw one today in the Valley. I forgot about these. I think they're about $80K.

I know most people here hate the style of the Z4's, but I've always liked them. And now the 'M' version iz back out! Well out for the 1st time in the Z4's anyway. It's worth taking a good look at.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies.

Can't say money is no object or I'd simply get a Carrera GT. Like the Cayman but its a fixed roof and I prefer open top.

I think I'll check out a few more cars before I do anything too quickly. This can get expensive. Actually the S likely to be as good or better on the track than any car I would replace it with - unfortunately most of my driving is on the road. I'll probably be looking for something that puts out a bit more spank with a bit less buzz - like I said the c6 is high on my list.

Funny but one of the problems I have when driving this car is wanting to go faster and getting grumpy because people are in my way. (This doesn't happen in my E500 for some reason) The S2000 is always screaming DRIVE ME!

Not sure if a different car would make this worse or better. Maybe I just feel guilty because I'm not listening often enough.

+1

This is the most logical step up. When I'm ready (won't be a long time), this or something very compareable (probably the next gen NSX or Vette) will be next step up. As of right now, the C6 is the choice. GM finally did the exterior perfect (to me anyways) and the interior is a nice step up. I'd get the NAVI, drop a quality alarm in there, and a small soundsystem and call it a day. It's a very nice car, no need for the Z06 unless you got $ to burn!
