STupid question:

Does a supercharger (Comptech, Vortech, etc) have a by-pass valve? If they do, can it be replaced by an aftermarket BOV?

Guys, enough name-calling, sheesh. I'm not exactly sure what it is that I'm misunderstanding, though. Help me.

I'm aware that overboosting is way of manipulating the wastegate actuator to allow higher boost pressures.

I was not aware that all factory turbos have a BOV/bypass.

I was under the impression that high boosts were more capable of damaging the intake and turbo, and a BOV was there to protect them. If it's true that ALL turbos already have one, then, yes, my thoughts about the design point are wrong. I had the impression that some turbo systems didn't need a BOV/bypass, because the intake and turbo were designed to withstand the transient pressure. Then it would make sense that you'd need to install a BOV only if you decide to boost beyond the stock pressure.

Then finally -- if every turbo car already has a BOV/bypass, what's the reason for swapping it out for a new one? Just the sound? Do people swap in BOV's with higher cracking pressures?

What?!? Am I seeing this correctly? Warren finally admitted to not knowing something? He actually admitted to being wrong? He spoke without knowing what he was talking about? He's asking for help AND no more namecalling? HELL JUST FROZE OVER!

There is a God!

JonBoy,

I'm only an ass when I know I'm right. I'm anti-ignorance all around -- even when the ignoramus is me. You obviously don't know me well enough.

fine to call others names and make fun when they don't know what they're talking about
Eh, name-calling gets one nowhere. I honestly try to resist it. I hereby apologize to anyone I've ever called stupid.

Once again, the only reason you think it's "ironic" is because you just don't know me at all.
