Why do people keep thinking you need to sacrifice AC w/ this car? It, and the stereo, are fickin' options!
Although I did see a Spyder by my house the other day...72 and sunny, and the top was up...some people

the only time you'd use the top is in a rainstorm, and presumably then you don't need a/c.

Auto climate control in a convertible is dropping the top.
I think 75% of the time I drove top down this past summer in Chicago the AC was on at every stoplight.
As far as the Boxter Spyder is concerned, the retardable top is a deal breaker for me. I know it's designed to be 'spartan' and 'weight saving' but come on, this is a Porche.
I'll take a regular Boxter S instead.

So after playing with the Boxster S configurator and realizing for the 20th time that the options are so stupid ridiculous expensive, it sort of makes me rethink what I would do on my next car.
I miss my s2000, but the wife hates convertibles. I live in Phoenix. It's hot as hell in the summer and the drive home (20 mins) would be insane without A/C. However, there are really only 3 egregiously hot months, and 9 months of perfect convertible weather (as long as you have butt warmers)
I was initially thinking Cayman S or Boxster S fully loaded with PDK, but you're talking 80 large nicely equipped with xenons, heated seats, stereo upgrade, nav, PASM, sport chrono, blah blah blah it adds up quickly.
So then I was considering a less well equipped Boxster S, but then another option is...RS Spyder and keep the RDX to drive a few months out of the year or when I need radio and all the creature comforts. The idea would be to literally never put the top up...if I need a top, take the rdx. I'm torn on adding back the A/C because it would be almost unsellable in AZ without it. I do think having a 3 month hiatus every year would help "keep it special".
Anyways, what do you guys think about the spyder? Worth having no creature comforts or door handles? Is it doable for a DD 9 months out of the year?
