That's a good point, now that I think about it that way. You're right (and Mark as well). I will graciously concede the point, blush, and back away slowly.

I get the linkage between the 550 and Boxster as being from the mechanical setup, but I can't help thinking that if Porsche wants to recall the 550, they should build a proper modern one, not tart up a Boxster.

Now, of course the B is already far beyond the 550 in capability with 50 years of improvement, but I guess if you're going to use the Boxster to recall the great original, at least revise the body heavily, and maybe even the interior, and make it more exclusive. The 550 for me is up there with some of the greatest Ferraris, and I'd love to own one of the replica cars kit builders make these days. But it would be nice to get an official redux from the factory. Imagine an official factory special the size of yesteryear's 550 (almost) with today's power and technology...
Agreed.
They should also make it deadly to drive too just to add to the cool factor, jk of course.

My apologies, it's 9 lbs. I forgot to mention that is also lost 3 HP.
So did yours. SAE rules changed, actual power output didn't.

As someone else said above, I'm also very pro-Porsche, and I realize when the Boxster came out the idea was along the lines of the old 550.....but don't play dress up with a Boxster and stick a legendary badge on it :notnice:

Porsche knows how to make cars with real substance: the 911 turbo being a daily drivable supercar, the GT3 modern but raw for the guys who think the 911 died with the dawn of liquid cooling, the GT2 being just pure insanity, Boxster and Cayman being sheer genius, Carrera GT......it's a Carrera GT, 'nuff said. I think Porsche can do much better than "tarting up" the Boxster.

Porsche is good at tarting up their cars. This is at least the 3rd Boxster they've done it to, then there is the Design Edition One Cayman S and at least one special edition Cayenne over the years. I'm not aware of any "special edition" 911's, however.

They did a PCA 911 in honor of the club's 50th anniversary.

There was a special y2k 911 also, I think.

(The Design Edition One thing is by Porsche Design, not the car people, IIRC. Looked really nice, IMO.)
