Default Boxster S vs. S2000.

For those who currently own, or have in the past, the Boxster S and S2000, please give me the quick pros and cons of each. Don't have to be lengthy, just a few good points. I especially like to hear about their handling and maintenance. Thanks!

Re handling, I was greatly impressed by a Boxster S on R-compound otherwise stock (so he said) - I couldn't keep up. I'm an admittedly novice driver with S02s but this guy caught me fast in the turns and blew by me in the straights. IMO, the Boxster S is a more capable car than the S2000, but it should be for twice the money. Can't comment on the maintenance issues.

Get ready to be bombarded with anti-Boxster rancor from a bunch of people who have never driven one, but who read about one in a magazine once. Before that starts, here's my evaluation after having owned both: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...c=153185&st=15

I'll go drive one the first time I get passed by one on the track.

You're deluding yourself if you think there's any meaningful track performance difference between the Boxster S and the S2000. The day you encounter a better driver than you in a Boxster S is the day you'll be passed by one.

"Pedal Faster", your comments are very accurate. I've driven both and the only thing that I would add is that the shift action is much smoother on the S2000 and the Boxster seems to have better brakes for track use.

In the end get the one you like better, they are both great (but very different) cars.

S2000 has a more direct, go-kart like feel. Boxster S is more stable. So in tight situations the S2000 is more nimble, but the Boxster can get the power down sooner in a corner. I'd say the S2000 is more fun and faster to drive at autocross, but scarier and slower to drive at a track.

Acceleration is identical up to 120mph. Haven't tested beyond that.

The S2000 seats are more comfortable, but only because the Boxster seat backs have a too-small flat surface.

The Boxster S sound system (at least with the DSP option) kicks ass.

S2000 shifter is best ever.

Drive-by-wire throttle on Boxster is weird at first, but it's easy to get used to it and you'll never notice it after that.

Thanks, guys!

Elistan, those are the comments I was looking for. Thx! I hope you're an owner of both, and not from test-drives.

That's not very helpful.

Give me an otherwise stock Miata with R-compound tires and you won't be able to keep up with me if you are a novice S2000 driver with S02's.

S2000 and Boxster S are very, VERY close in performance. S2000 is more tossable, Boxster is more neutral, S2000 has a better shifter, Boxster has better brakes, S2000 has a higher redline, Boxster has more torque. But in the end, when it all adds up, the two cars are very close on a track.

I have the S2000, my dad has the Boxster S. We've traded cars in both street and track/autocross situations.
