FOR THOSE WHO ALWAYS MENTION THE $200.00 OIL CHANGES.

ITS 10 QUARTS AT 20K MILES. SO TECHINICALLY IT IS THE SAME AS DOING $25.00 3K ENGINE OIL CHANGES. OR SOME WHERE IN THE BALL PARK.

PLUS OF COURSE ITS CHEAPER IF YOU GET IT DONE AT A NON PORSCHE DEALERSHIP.
that's how i looked at it. and the RMS issue is under $1,000 for a fix

I had a 2000 Boxster S and currently own a 2006 Boxster S.

Owned both cars for 1-2 years each.

Never had engine failure or leaking anything. Both cars were bought at 40K miles and daily driven through snow, ice, etc...

And LOL at any fool that pays 300$ for an oil change.

I pay 130$ tax incl. for an oil-filter change here in Montreal where prices are usually 2X what you guys pay down south.

Oh, and the 987S is a lot more fun to drive than any Z4, 350 or 370Z...Especially the 2007 Boxster S with the 295HP engine.

...or your own garage. It takes like 15 minutes to do an oil change.

yup i have 2006 Boxster S, nothing comes close to it with those other cars. porsche really has nothing but racing in their blood. and really designed a great car.

daily drivien with 24k miles. no problem yet. If its going to be a daily driver and not a occasional track driver.

I doubt you are going to run into these problems..

that's the key, just drive 'em. if you buy a 10 year old 996 or 986, where the driver's only modification were slicks in an attempt to attain HPDE champion status, or kept low miles and it garaged up for long periods of time to avoid maintenance you are asking for it. rubber and plastic parts age after a decade.

i was just exaggerating the cost to illustrate the point that the car is considerably more expensive than lets say an s2k.

anyway i thought i was exaggerating untill i did a search and ran into these quoted prices from an independent shop.

Recommend Oil Change for your Porsche every 7500 miles. We use Genuine Porsche parts and Mobil 1 oil 0-40. Typical Oil-Change prices from the dealerships will run between $250-350 depending on your model and your dealership.

1.996 C2 & C4 $169 1999-2004
2.986 Boxster $169 1997-2004
3.996 Turbo $179 2001-2004
4.987 Boxster $169 2005-present
5.997 Carrera $169 2005-present
6.993 Carrera $169 1995-1998
7.993 Turbo $179 1996-1997
8.all other models please call or email

one more point, not everyone is as car savy as some of you guys here, so unfortunately there are folks who do take their cars to stealerships to do routine maintenance, i've taken it to honda when ever i get a 29.99 coupon.

i know it's a little OT when u guys are talking reliability, but it comes back to the point that when you do encounter a problem, it's gonna be big bucks. I know some of you guys have nice sizeable wallets so it should not be a problem for you guys, but still some folks get into cars they can't afford.

that $30 coupon doesn't buy you mobil 1 or fill a 3.4+ liter motor - it's cheap because the s2000 has a 4 cylinder. also honda always charges more for the s2000 oil changes in my area, something this or that about the s2000 filters costing more or using more oil than other hondas. s2000 is such a small displacement, tried and true, motor placed in a convenient location, hence the low maintenance cost

go with a 987 (Boxster or Cayman) and you can't really go wrong with either. heard about the 986 RMS issue but fixes are well known (check rennlist and planet-9 for more info) and easy to get ahead of it with preventive fix that's not too expensive as mentioned earlier.

986 vs. S2000: i'd take AP1 or AP2; 987 vs. S2000: i'd take 987 iterations ANY time.

The non-GT3/TT motors are junk in the 996 iteriations.
Junk?

That's a bit extreme to say, don't you think?

What specifically makes them junk?
