I never cared for them until I started hanging out with a buddy that had two of them. Bad ass machines if you asked me.

I loved Buells, they offered something different from the usual big 4 bikes.

Well I guess the used ones will be cheap and I would like to pick up a track bike.

Seriously, wtf is right. What was the point in buying them to shut them down, it's not like they were a competitor there-by eliminating competition; and shutting them down can't bring h&d money?

My first bike was a Buell.

A d@mn shame that this happened. I'm glad that I got to meet Erik in person, which makes me more bummed that Harley is dumping off such a wonderful company and product line like soo much recycling....

Sorry to all you Harley fans out there, but I'm not a fan of this move and will never buy a Harley (unless they somehow bring Buell back).

My thoughts are with the entire Buell family (yes, especially all the folks who don't have Buell as their last name, but worked to make a great company and product) up in East Troy, WI.

Meh. More sad they are divesting MV Agusta than anything. Buell was a terrible brand with terrible bikes.

This truly is sad, and anyone who can understand that riding is so much more than having a spec sheet between your legs can appreciate that.

More info for those of you who haven't heard:

Basically harley's profits are down 80% this quarter so they are selling mv and dumping buell. Which still doesn't make sense for me since closing buell is going to cost them ~$125mil to do... Not sure why they don't just put it up for sale, seeing how they just bought them a little bit ago.

Most Harleys are sold as "lifestyle accessories", like a big gold chain to be ridden instead of worn about one's neck.

The "need" for Harleys has expanded to include the weekend warriors (see "Wild Hogs").... you know the folks that are lucky to see 1,000 miles on their (only) bike in a year?

But Buells? Buells were (are) special. You have to want one to get one, and when you do get one, it's probably not because you're trying to impress anyone or need a "lifestyle accessory".

Buell is a fantastic brand and that's because the people that made up the compnay, up to and including Erik are top notch (I'm glad to have met Erik and spent and hour or so talking with him).

I wonder if those that don't like Buells have ever even ridden one?

Although I guess I wouldn't go all the way to 'terrible'. For me, more like highly undesirable.
Ba bye Buell.
