I think H-D saw it as a dilution of the brand it wants.

I just saw a guy win a new Buell at the local Quaker Steak & Lube last night. Sad news. Eric Buell looks pretty upset in that video.

More info for those of you who haven't heard:

Basically harley's profits are down 80% this quarter so they are selling mv and dumping buell. Which still doesn't make sense for me since closing buell is going to cost them ~$125mil to do... Not sure why they don't just put it up for sale, seeing how they just bought them a little bit ago.
I'm pretty sure that Buell has been wholly owned by HD for over 10 years.

It was 2003 when they were completely bought out by Harley.

I've only met the guy once (but spoke to him for about an hour) and I can't watch the video.

I'm that upset at Harley right now. I know business is business... but it doesn't make this suck any less.

East Troy, WI ain't that far from Chicago and I know someone who's now jobless thanks to this....

It's somewhat ironic that I'm pulling for Buell even though this is a Honda board... but yeah I really love their philosophy and their products and their company!

I have never liked Buell, watched that video, and I really do feel bad for Eric. He has the look of a beaten, dream-crushed man.

This makes the AMA look even more silly for their blatant pandering to Buell all last year. I bet they are glad they pissed off all the other makers now.

Damn. Buell was my best shot at ever buying an American bike! You know, something built with current technology. I figured they would eventually work out the fit-and-finish and other gremlins Buell had before HD picked them up. They were NOT there yet but improving.
