My coupe is 633 per month inclusive 10k miles per year 2 year lease, maintenence included. 0 down just first and last months payments, performance school delivery (free and a blast). I can add miles up until 4 months before the lease expires for 16 cents a mile. Car has been flawless 5k miles to date. Leased through my buisness I can right off 95 percent of the lease payments and 100 percent of the insurance and gas.

But stock for stock the 335 is not faster, if you chip it you put at risk the wonderful BMW Ultimate warranty (maintenance included), and without an LSD, I'm not sure how the heck you come to the conclusion that the 335 will handle better than the E46 M3 on "coilovers" as you put it.
I found the 335i to be soft, torquey, a good handler for a commuter car type vehicle built for the masses. As in any other small sedan in this class, the back seats are a joke.
And spending $2K on a valve adjustment is insane. It costs $1500 from BMW to get an Inspection period so not sure where you're going with that one bud.

Yes...stock for stock the M3 is quicker but that's not really apparent into the triple digits, the 335 has an advantage from the roll. I have an LSD on the way and coilovers in the garage for the 335 and at that point it will handle better than a stock M3 but my M3 is not stock. BMW dealerships are generally around $1,700 for inspection II (for an E46 M3) and that's assuming the car doesn't need anything else. How many Inspections have you done on your M3? I love how people that don't own the cars in question seem to be a wealth of knowledge on them. It's hard not to laugh at some of the idiots on the internet...
Here it is as of a year ago before I sold it sitting pretty in my condo garage:
It was under warranty, but I know it's $1400 w/ 8.8% WA state sales tax, INSP II. I've gone through two Inspections.
So now what you bring into this compario is a modified 335i v. a stock M3. How convenient for you to start bringing in some additional variables. So you "slap" on an aftermarket LSD (still unproven) and you add coilovers... what next? There goes your warranty for those parts and devalue the car.
The M3 is still a superior driving experience as compared to the 335i per the numbers and by the seat of your pants. That's saying a lot that we're even beginning to compare a regular 3 series to an M car so don't get your panties in a bunch about your quick, comfortable, capable German Accord that you and your mom would be happy driving either way.

Then I made a poor assumption and I apologize...on mine, I called the 3 closest dealerships and all were in the mid $1,700 range for Inspection II and I requested a couple of other minor things be done and my bill was about $2,100. The M3 is definitely the superior driving experience but the 335's motor has so much more potential at least for street driving that it I'm willing to work on improving it's few weaknesses. I love my M3 and it's more fun than my 335 but I have around $12K in mods and that's without FI on my M3. The 335 is quiet and smooth as silk and putting down about 350RWHP and over 400 torque with a much more compliant ride than my M3. Nice wheel choice...you can never go wrong on a car with LM's.

I'm excited to see what the new M3 brings, though I'll never buy another M as a fun car. I kinda got bored w/ my M3 as-is in less than a year. I had more fun driving the Comptech S2000 I had, though I'd never pick it over my M3 as it were.

It's a great commuter car, but I don't get what all the excitment is over this mass produced German Accord especially on an internet board that's dedicated to a special little driving rocket called the S2000.
It's a boring drive.
It's a boring drive.
I'm sure the 335 better, because it is quicker, but at the end of the day there is still the same isolation, the same myriad of driver safety nets, and the truth is there are other cars that are far more involving and worthwhile to drive.
So I'll even go one step further than you- non-///M BMWs are not not only the ultimate commuting machine, they're also the ultimate disposable machine. Don't buy, lease. Drive it to work, enjoy the comfort, warranty and the free maintenance, then throw it away when you're done. Keep a second car in the garage, like an S, Louts, or Porsche and enjoy a fun car.
