Default A/c issue

Okay guys! This is not a ap1 or ap2 it is a 2005 Acura TL, actually it's my wife's car. The nagging begins when the Mrs. is uncomfortable in her own car without a/c and I have to hear it because I'm known to tackle whatever car repair job I'm capable of, LOL.

Anyways, the a/c hisses when I hit the a/c button to enable the a/c system on low temp. The air is coming at an outside temp even with the a/c on at the coolest possible level setting. I can feel the load on the engine when the compressor kicks on, however no cold air.

I checked the pressure on the low and high line sides, and the low is reading correctly I believe, 40 psi. However the high side is under the 100 mark.. At about 80-85. The gauge is indicating "need service".

What is can the issue be? Bad compressor? If so, how can I test to see if the compressor does need replacing? Low freon? Stuckor blocked line?

I vote refrigerant leak. Most likely the compressor seal...

Is there any possible way to tell if the seal is bad? Can the seal be replaced? Will this cause the high side to be low on pressure?

I'm no expert on Car A/C but I believe the metering device tries to maintain a constant pressure on the low side so it really doesn't care what the high side is doing and your high side pressure sounds low which can indicate a low charge. To check for a leak you would need to pressurize the system and spray a soap solution on the areas to see if you get bubbles. We use nitrogen so you would need to evacuate the R134a, pressurize with Nitrogen and after that put the system in a vacuum and recharge.
Not sure if you can replace the seal, probably would need a new or rebuilt compressor.
You could always buy some R134a and put some in to see if it is indeed low on charge.
Also check the cabin filter to make sure it's not plugged and that the evap is clean. I think the cabin filter is behind glove box.

Sorry but like I said I don't work on car A/C so someone else may want to chime in...

Don't know about the TL but on the S there is a heater valve that can get stuck causing only warm to hot air to come in while the AC is on. This happened to me a few weeks back. A couple of pulls on the valve fixed my problem.

Again, not sure if that is something that is on the TL, but might be worth looking into.
