Default C5 Vette or S2K?

I can't make up my mind!!!!

Think I should go for the '99 Vette or the '01 S2k. I think the total cost of ownership (repairs/insurance) would be cheaper on the S2K... but the Vette (and the torque) is oh so tempting.

If you are tempted by the torque, go with the C5. I wouldn't want anyone to feel unsatisfied with the S2000, and if you are looking for torque, you may get bored with the S.

You want torque = C5
You want reliability = S2k

FYI: The corvette has been constantly black-balled by Consumer Reports as far as reliability is concerned.

Having owned both, I can give a you couple observations that may not be obvious:
S2000 feels faster/quicker due to the noise, droptop, and revs, but the C5 is faster/quicker.
S2000 feels more nimble
S2000 is smaller - both people and cargo space

Take both for a long test drive to decide. They are really quite different cars. My 99 C5 had no problems at all, but you never know with used cars. Good luck.

I would go with the C5 if I were to do it over again. I am hoping a Z06 will be in the future for me.

BTW: 6sigma, hadn't noticed that sentence in my 2k2 owners manual, I'll have to check for that. They put the stupidest things in manuals these days. Nevertheless, it is still funny.

I think that if you go out at 4am on a nice cool night just to have fun and drive around by yourself, the S2000 is a great car. Its a blast to drive.

But if you want raw power to go along with the sports car looks etc, the C5 is for you.

Just try to drive each one. It will be an easy decision either way.

Yeah, CU is a great purveyor of car information!

Anyway, buying used is always a crap shoot, but I've had my C5 since new and I know how to take care of it (and spank it HARD! ), so it's going to vary from car to car.

The cars are VERY different, I think if you drive both of them a few times, it'll help make your decision one way or the other!

I had my S for two years. I recently changed into a Z06. I ran my first auto-x in it Saturday night. I can tell you now that throttle control is much more important in the vette!

My initial sense of ride quality is very similar between the two. I feel the road in a similar way (couldn't say about the regular C5's). I like the steering and shifter feel much better in the S. I'd kill for good HID lights (stock C5 headlights stink). All-around the vette is "more car." The only questions are, is it worth the price difference (you're buying used so that's not the thing) and do you want the convertible go-kart feeling of the S. I like that out on the street I'm not slinking past SS Camaros and such any more (yeah, I drove the S aggressively too). There's so few Vipers on the road and they're almost the only stock vehicle below $130K that I'd feel like slinking past, in that same king-of-the-road way. If anything, I drive more conservatively now since I have less to "prove" (yep, go ahead and make those small penis jokes now...).

My insurance is maybe $50 a year higher on the Z06. I was amazed at the modest increase. I was going to be raped for an extra $600 a year if I bought the '03 Cobra.

My significant other likes the vette better. She was always reluctant for us to take the S. Not sure exactly why, probably comfort and the larger trunk in the vette. I do like the interior room.
