Would you preffer a C5 Z06 or a new C6. C5 Z06=405hp vs. C6=400 hp. C5 Z06=$50K+. C6=$44K.
Where in the hell have you been for the past two years?

You can pick up a brand new Z06 for 43k. Used 02's are now in the low-mid 30's with 5-8k miles.

I know. I'm just going by MSRP, that's all.

Who in their right mind would compare an S2000 and a Camaro? The aren't even CLOSE in performance. Makes no sense really, just goes to show the S2000 is WAY WAY overpriced.

Oh, wait, you own an S2000. Could it be that there's more to a car than straight line performance?

Actually, you're right -- when I bought my Boxster S, I didn't even consider the Corvette.

except the vette will outdo the boxster in straight line, crooked line, stopping, or pretty much any other type of line

A shifter kart will outdo the Vette in all of those categories. Why don't you buy a shifter kart? Could it be that there are other factors in your purchase other than pure performance measures?

Having said that, have you driven both a Boxster S and a Corvette? I have, and I agree that a Vette will murder the Boxster S in a straight line. They're probably equally capable around big turns, but the Boxster's smaller, more agile, and just plain feels better around tighter stuff. Is that a subjective measure not necessarily provable through any numeric measure? Absolutely. Would I buy a Boxster over a Vette for that and a number of other subjective qualities? Absolutely.

I agree...I just got to drive a friend's new 911 GT3 around his private track. Too say it's an awesome car is an understatement...but afterwards, I drove his 80cc shifter kart around the same track, and it was even more fun!

The Vette also has more room, prolly a better stereo, climate control and is comfy enough to drive across country.

You take the go kart,

I can't speak for the C6, but I've driven both a Boxster S and a Z06...

I liked the Boxster S a lot, but it wasn't that much better than the S2000 in any area in order for me to justify it's extra price.

As for the Z06, and the S2000 (an by inference the Boxster S) there is no substitute (for cubic inches that is).

The Vette Kills a S2000 and Boxster S in every straight line measurment. Not by a little but by over a second to 60 and probably several seconds to 120mph.

The Z06 is no slouch in the handling department either.

The Boxster has the convertible thing going for it. Is a smaller package and better looking. IMO

I'd buy a Z06 ($43K) before I'd buy a Boxster S for $53K.

Thank you for completely and utterly missing my point, and in so doing it, making my point for me.

You and others on this thread are arguing that there's no reason to buy a Boxster over a Corvette because the Corvette's faster -- implicitly dismissing the Boxster's practicality, livability, and other advantages. I replied stating that if performance is truly the only thing that matters to you, then you should buy a shifter kart, because it's faster than a Corvette -- you replied citing the Corvette's practicality, livability, and other advantages.

So which is it? If performance is the only thing that matters, then you can't justify having a Corvette as your daily driver when a cheaper, faster shifter kart alternative exists. If other factors besides performance matter, then you can't make a blanket statement that there's no reason to buy a Boxster when the cheaper, faster Corvette alternative exists.

I'm not arguing that one car's better than another. I am arguing that any analysis based solely on performance numbers is overly simplistic. If numbers were all that mattered, car magazines would be a lot thinner.
