Default Camera Mount Wind & Vibration Issue

So I bought a new digital camera to replace my junky Cannon. It's a Samsung NV24HD. I got it in hopes of it being a small camera that takes excellent video (1080i) with a wide angle lens (24mm). So I got the single-suction-cup mount from modifry's site to use on the car to get some good footage for when I go to meets. Well, it turns out that there's a ton of vibration and wind noise (the noise is expected of a point and shoot).

Does anyone know a camera and/or camera-mount setup that has been working well for them with the top down? I'd really like to get some cruising footage and footage from s2k meets.

Here's some footage from me driving with the top down at night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jFezep1PeU

I'll be posting a video soon with the top up and the camera mounted to the back windshield.

I have one of the chase camera suction mounts.

http://www.chasecam.com/mount/suction/SM31

This is for in the car only, but you have to make sure you really, really tighten it down. I mean you have to wrench on the thing when you tighten each of the bolts.

The camera needs to be screwed in snug, but the adjustment bolts have to be tightened down a ton or it will vibrate. Wind noise is nothing you can avoid as you have a lot of wind.

The only thing you could do would be to use an external mic and put it somewhere else and then record that audio stream instead...if your camera can even do that...i would be surprised.

Chasecam has outside the car mounts too that work well, but the same principal applies.

edit: Also I wouldn't think the mount would work well on your back window. The back window in a vert is going to vibrate a ton. You need to stick it to a hard window surface.

edit2: video from my front windshield:

Now i have a tin top car, but both windows are down in the video. This mount would work on your front windshield or side windows, but that's it. ChaseCam doesn't make any mounts that go on the body of the car as far as I know. About, the only place these mounts would work on an S2000 is the front windshield, passenger side window, or the back window of a hardtop equipped car.

Cool videos. Don't know why I didn't think about placing the mount on the passenger side window; I think I'll try that today but it probably won't get the angle I'll need. By the way, what kind of camera did you use in those videos?

I'm thinking about buying and shaping a thin metal plate/sheet for the suction cup to mount on so I can mount it just in front of the wind deflector (like this: http://www.modifry.com/products/moun...era/ws-lp.htm). I can't mount the suction cup there now because of the textured surface.

For the noise issue, buy some foam from a craft store and cover the mic hole on your camera with it. That's what I do, and it works fine, at least at autocross speeds.

For wind noise I use a remote mic. But the vibration is a tough one. The testing I've done tells me that the vibration is also from wind. With the top up (even with windows down) the vibration is almost nil. If the top is down, it's a problem.

You might try mounting the suction cup mount on the inside of the windshield to see if that makes a difference in both wind noise and vibration.
