Default Can you believe the Z4 M Coupe weighs 3303 lbs?

I'm wondering jeeze did anyone expect that weight?

I owned a 96 Z3 roadster, it was no big deal with just 138hp. But it weighed 26xx lbs. So the Z4 M coupe is 600+ lbs heavier.

Not that it should be compared to the old Z3, but heck it's 150 lbs more than a C6 and 200 lbs more than the Cayman S.

The M coupe has a lot of M3 parts engine, brakes etc... however the M3 is only about 100 lbs heavier than the M coupe.

BTW I'm going by C&D test weight which had the Cayman S listed at 3122 lbs. Maybe they're off a bit.

BMW lost the recipe for light weight. Haven't they just gotten heavier since the first 2002 Ti?

Yup. They pretty much gave up the sports car market in order to enter the luxury car market, making up for their weight with power.

Seat heaters, 15 million way electric seats, heated mirrors, semi-automatic trannies, hot and cold cup holders ( ) and coolers for your ass and back all add to weight. BUT, you vill get all zat terrrrrrifffic churnam engineering. Hoot Man!
Oh, and those BMW emblems? They are made of depleted uranium like the bullets on the "Warthog". Verrrrry heavy.

BMW should look at its past for the future. Something like the 2700-lb e30 M3 would be a good start.

They have to figure out a way to sell a $60,000 car, and they are not going to do by raw feel and a great engine.

They need to market it as a luxorious sports car, or at least something different than a corvette. The reason people buy M3s, and will by the coupe is because they offer more than a corvette. They are more practical, and even with all that weight, extremely rewarding to drive.

...and some people like 15-million way adjustable seats with air conditioned seats, 14 speakers, a subwoofer, etc...

(I'm sooooooo getting the award for "capitan obvious"!)

I loved my Z3, it was fun, fast and reliable... I never got tired of looking back at the car after parking it.

Unfortunately for BMW, the Z4 has never done anything except turn me off. That made it very easy for me to appreciate everything the S2K has going for it... a pure, sexy, sports car.

I'm sure the new ///M Coupe will perform well, it's just that I can't see myself driving something that is that much of a compromise between a luxury and sports car.

Why are you surprised that it weighs that much? The older Z3 M Coupe weight 3100lbs. Add all the electronic crap that has come along since the last MCoupe and you have the extra 200lbs.
