Default Car design ideas...

Finishing up my portfolio for submission to ACCD and CCS for trans design and need some input.

I am looking to add a couple more projects to it in the next few days. Any ideas for concepts/something you'd like to see done? Of course i could just sit around and design supercars/sports cars all day but I need to add some variety...

Currently I am working on a sports coupe inspired by 60's greats - Lamborghini Miura, Ford GT40, Shelby Cobra, Ferrari 250 GTO/LM, and... The Speed Racer GRX. Oh yes..
-Snotty V8 or V12, F/R, classic styling with retro cues and simplistic interior. Target buyer would be affluent baby boomer looking to add spice to their collection with a modern day "throwback" that harks back to a simpler time...

Throw some stuff at me. What do you want to see in the market? The idea behind the portfolio is to showcase thought process and design development - main emphasis on sketching. I need to send this thing out by the 20th!

Good luck.

There have been quite a few ACCD Trans alum who used to frequent this board more regularly at one point, but I haven't seen a few of them around in a while.

Showcase your sketching, but don't forget to show how you think as well. Have you talked to a counselor yet? I don't know where your skill level is right now, but if you can, I'd recommend a night class at ACCD before actually enrolling. It'll help give you a taste of what it's like.

The last time I was at art center and had gone through the gallery there was a focus on mobility projects that played with the idea of a "car," some mass transit solutions, and a few city cars. I suggest pursuing an idea in that direction.

The suggestion to see a counselor is a great one. They sit in on the portfolio reviews and can give a good indication if you should apply or work on your portfolio.

An additional thought - it is a lot of debt to take on for a small chance of a job. When economy tanked, trans jobs dried up. If you are lucky enough to get a job, you can be paid well to work in alias, modeling the designs of others or you can be paid poorly and be lucky if you get to design the door handle.

Best of luck.

Ha ha ha. Don't pull any punches Mike .

Bleak as it may sound, there's definitely truth to his words. It's a lot of debt for a specialized field that doesn't promise returns on investment like Law, Business, or Medical school might. So keep that in mind as you weigh your options.
