If you're buying a used BMW, I would definitely look at a Certified Used BMW. I think the warranty is pretty good and you get a 3 yr/36k free service included. Another thing, I think you get a loaner with the BMW. Minor details, but stuff that you and your wife might like.

If you choose the Altima, check out the SE-R. It stickers for a little over 30k, but you can get it for around 27k-28k if you haggle a bit.
