hmm..i was surprised by the 370z beating the 135i...the bmw is more luxurious though, so I guess it makes sense.
Really? I'm not. I knew it would always be super close. Just look at the power to weight ratios.

I'm looking at the data test sheets for the 370Z and 135i.

Interesting facts:

1.) Tested weight - 370Z- 3360lb 135i-3380lb

2.) 0-100mph - 370Z- 11.8sec 135i- 11.8sec

3.) 0-140mph- 370Z- 25.9sec 135i- 27.9sec

4.) 5-60mph -370Z- 5.5sec 135i- 5.4sec

5.) 30-50mph 370Z- 8.2sec 135i- 6.0sec

6.) 50-70mph 370Z- 7.6sec 135i- 5.9sec

The Z is a little faster over 100mph. I wonder what accounts for that. The weight is almost the same. At least the 1 has an excuse for being a pig(4seats)..lol Waiting on Yellow S.

Frontal area and aerodynamics, I'd say the 370Z is a "slippier" design probably with a lower drag coefficient.

The other day as I was driving home, I noticed a brand new slightly updated RX8. I cannot believe these are still in production ... Are people still buying these?

Prob drag - any coefficient numbers to look at? Also, any track times done yet? I'd like to see how the two compare when on a course.

Surprised that a CR and Genesis coupe were not included. This is a weird test....you have a BMW, Mazda, Pontiac, and Nissan. I don't even think the 135 is a competitor to those three, but the Genesis and CR certainly are.

Stupid C&D, this just reminds me why I canceled my subscription years ago.

saki, what would be your choice between an '09 CR and 370Z?
370Z. Yes, its a 500-pound heavier "pig", but I'd like the 330 hp, updated car. I loved my last Z. If Honda had imported a Type-S, I'd look hard at that, though I've had four years in an S already. Maybe in another four, we'll see what the landscape looks like.

370Z: 13.4@107mph! Wow! Nice trap speed!

Shame about the RX8! Great chassis but anemic engine.

I'll still take the solstice coupe, and with the inevitable depreciation, they'll be great performance bargains. Consider that the GXP model is fully speced while the 370z starts at 29.
They do well in autocross events, have great straightline performance, and I'm a fan of the look so it works for me. The suspension setup is soft to appeal to non hardcore enthusiasts (and rightfully so since those folk won't even consider a pontiac), but doesn't mean that the chassis isn't capable of greatness which it is.
I did wnat to see the genesis coupe in this comparo because ultimately I will be choosing between the solstice coupe and the gen coupe for my next (if it isn't an s2000) sometime down the road.
