He screwed up the wiring. I think two of the cylinders were firing on the exhaust stroke instead of the power stroke. Instead of that force hitting the piston to produce usable power it was hitting the cats. The shock and sudden increase in pressure were fragmenting and ejecting his cats.

wow, as much as I enjoy the posts about ppl dumping sand in their intake and rerouting exhaust into their throttle bodies I have yet to see anything remotely close to it being done in real life.
