nope

the only thing you need larger wheels for is to put in bigger brakes.

well's they can say I drive a Porsche instead of a Chevy.
Not saying this is a good or bad thing; just saying people buy the car just for the name.

Some of us mere mortals that aren't used to 505 hp and have neither the time or location to fully apply it will find 295 hp and a smaller, more forgiving chassis (and motor) somewhat more appropriate for our pedestrian lives.

Can I negotiate the price of the new Cayman or are they going on MSRP?

I imagin MSRP al least for the first few months, but can get good dicount at this tme next year.

A new owner got 9k off on his '05 leftover BS. Not saying you could get that much off on a CS though... it depends on if it sells or not and how badly the dealer wants to off load it.

100%....however that doesn't make a Cayman S at $65K (essential options) or $75K (as tested) a good deal.

Porsche is charging real money for a car that is closer preformance-wise to an Elise than a Z06. -- those tests scores are right on top of an Elise but the price is $20K-$30K more...

My point is, not even 300-hp for a mid-$60s- mid-$70s car

The Z06 is more than most people need, but it's like you can get a super-Size Value-meal or a Happy meal for the same money.

Cayman S costs (at least) 2x as much as a S2000 (gets you 0.5s in the 1/4 mile). You can buy a S2000 + EVO MR (at least) for that money.

As someone said before: 295hp BS, 325hp CS and 355hp 911 makes me a lot more happy for ~60k ~70K and ~80K +/-

Again with the multiple cars.

Why did'nt you get a used miata + a used Accord instead of your S2000?

This is a tough argument. I see how some people will always argue $ for $. Is bang for the buck is always the argument the Porsches & Ferraris will never win. Porsche has always been roughly 2X the price of their nearest Corvette competitor. Always has been, probably always will be. Funny, because sometimes this argument is used by Porschephiles to justify their purchase of a Porsche vs. a Ferrari. Yet, you lose the different characteristics between the the diferent car lines.

If this was the argument though, MBZ would never sell an E or S class as you can just get a Ford Taurus or Crawn Victoria at 1/3 the price.

Not saying it's a wrong argument, just one that I would never use.

That being said , I don't think I will be getting a Porsche anytime in the near future, as I said they really short changed us on the hp. Until they are offering $6K-$8K discounts again, then the Porsche Carrera S will be where I think it should be priced.

I know some people will say this doesn't make sense, but everybody has their own sense of "value." To me if the Carrera S was the Carrera (or at least priced around there) I would have bought it. Their 325 hp offering was a joke. The rest of the industry has passed them by, but they doggedly insist on sticking to their diluted hp increase schedule (a few hp every few years). They offer a "regular" model, now an upgraded "S" model, then they will shortly be offering a "powerkit to boost hp up to 381 hp on the Carrera S. Give me a break. It should have been Carrera with 355 hp, and Carrera S with the 381 hp to start with.

Already have 4-door sedan

Point is, a EVO MR or an Elise by themselves are a close aproximation of a Cayman S (performance) you could probably get them both for a near the same price as nicely optioned Cayman.

From my point of view, the Cayman lookes high-priced while the Z06 looks low-priced for what you get. IMO.

IMO the Boxster or Cayman should be entry level Porsche cars like a 944 was back in the day. More power to them if they can get mid-70s for them. Just seems like we're at the NSX (price-performance) all over again.

EDIT: turn the question around, why did I buy a S2000 instead of a NSX? That's what we're talknig about with the difference b/t a S2000 and a Cayman S is like the difference b/t a S2000 and a NSX for roughly the same money.

I'd rather see the Cayman sell for 5 grand UNDER the convertible.

At the current price -- it is the replacement to the NSX in spirit, performance and price/performance ratio.
