It doesn't necessarily have to be about cold hard facts though.

I would even consider paying a premium for a hybrid model over a standard, knowing that the money out of my pocket is going more towards supporting technology and engineering, rather than supporting oil companies.

It's not always about dollars...
I agree. A part of me wishes everyone would drive plug in hybrids and leave the gas for performance car drivers like us.

In all seriousness though, if I'm driving a boring daily driver anyway, I don't feel like its a huge burden to drive a car which is very fuel efficient and emits as little pollution as possible. This is outside of any political statement driving such a car may or may not make.

Now, whether I think hybrid technology is really the final solution to growing energy and environmental concerns, that's another matter....

Well she is not really looking at the "savings" cost rather more of the environmental factor. Yea she is somewhat a earth loving hippy lol ... but I almost forgot about the insight!

Let me do some research on that.

Thanks guys.

I also forgot to mention the fact again that she needs a car now ... does anyone know if there is a wait list for the Insight and when is it due to hit the dealerships?

Hey peeps,

My friend just totaled her Corolla and is looking for a civic hybrid (06-up). Can someone direct me to any forums so I can read up on what the pros and cons are? I tired googling but nothing came up.

While we're on that subject, do you guys know of any pros and cons on the civic hybrid (vs. Prius). I read that the battery in the Prius might go out and the cost is like $4,000. Is this true for the Civic Hybrid as well?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

THanks for that Mike ... I think I just convinced her to go ahead with the Insight.

So now since we're switching directions, any good Insight forums? Or anywhere I can read up about the availability and specs?

Thanks again guys.

www.vtec.net for most of the info. Honda's site should also have info.

The new Insight with the dramatically improved IMA system is going to be a gazillion times better than an '06-up Civic Hybrid.
I wish that Honda did a little better job in the exterior design of insight. It kind of looks like a bad copy of second generation Prius. That is the reason why there are people still interested in Civic Hybrid II instead of an Insight.

I hear that the batteries last up to 150,000 miles and they're about $2,000 to be honest.

I'd tell her to wait and pay 18ish for the new Insight in a two months.
Honda hybrid system including battery has warranty until 80,000 miles or(8 or 10 years not sure)

Toyota hybrid system has 10 year 100,000 miles warranty outside of california, in california it is 150,000 miles not sure about how many years.
