The only thing I would disagree with is "America's". They certainly are the best of the Japanese and arguably the world (I would say yes but not flawless). I would not classify them as the best of America's as they most certainly aren't American no mater how much they pretend to be.

I believe Toyota builds at least half their USA market vehicles in the United States. Sounds more American than Japanese to me.

Last I checked they were HQ'd in Tokyo, they weren't traded on the American exchanges and they weren't founded in the US. Seems like a foreign company with operations in the US, not a US company with operations in Japan. I suspect Intel makes quite a few (most?) of their chips overseas but I would still call them a US company. Same with Apple.

Perhaps you just have skewed perception.
I think you missed some of the irony in my post.
Toyota is "out-Americanizing" the American automakers while still retaining (in general) the Japanese qualities that got them there in the first place.
They build a ton of cars here. They have the most comprehensive line of vehicles in the United States and they're competitive in most of the classes. They're more fuel efficient than many of their counterparts yet often more powerful and refined as well.
I'm not really a Toyota fan but I have to admit that they're doing what the others could only dream of doing - selling well in pretty much every vehicle category they contest.

Toyota is traded on the NYSE under the TM marker.

I do agree that Toyota is doing an excellent job of catering to the US public. I just am pointing out that they are still a foreign automaker no mater how many ways they may claim otherwise. Now if they move their world HQ to the US and the majority of their corporate operations I might change my mind.

I guess my point is that the topic said "America's Best Automaker". That doesn't mean (to me) that they're the best automaker of American origin but rather the best automaker that's actually making (and selling) cars in America.
Perhaps my perception is skewed.
