Default Common problems with Impreza

So I'm looking at 06-07 Impreza 2.5i's for a new car to drive every day. I want a sedan and manual transmission. I don't need the turbo so I'm gonna try and stay away from Wrx's and STI's.

Are there any common issues with these? I heard some have head gasket issues but m friend was unsure what years did.

Thanks!

I believe the headgasket problems were in the 1999-2001 2.5RS, I don't think there are issues that I am aware of with the 06-07 2.5i.

I would check out nasioc.com and i-club.com

I've owned a 2006 2.5i for about 4 years now, put about 35k miles on it and have no problems! Mine has been super reliable.

The common problem is that it's NOT turbo.

headgasket issues were more common with some of the older model imprezas. Shouldn't have any issues with a more current one. Keep up with the routing maintenance which is real simple with this cars and when it gets to 105k miles make sure you change the timing belt and you'll be set.

Before I got into the s2k I had an 04 WRX that I put 90k miles on in the time I owned it and that included an upgraded turbo and tune and stuff and it never gave me a single problem. It was actually as easy to maintain as my s2k was. I also had an 06 Sti for about 6 months in which I put 15k miles on it in between s2k #1 and s2k #2. I'd get another Subaru in a heart beat.

When my Volvo dies I want to get a Forester or Legacy for a daily.

Subies = Most underrated car by the everyday man, and most overrated by boy racers

And I've never heard of a 'common' problem on these impreza's, only ring landings on the wrx/sti, but I'm sure thats a boost problem.

You are correct. The regular N/A Imprezas are pretty bulletproof. The major engine issues are mostly with the newer STIs which is thought to be from the terrible stock tune Subaru put on them. My old 08 STI was solid but I had it retuned very early in its life.
