98 and older with 2.5 dohc has head gasket issues.. They are also known for their misfire..

My father had a '06 WRX automatic and he put over 130k miles on it in 3 years (from new) before he sold it in '09 with no problems and all maintenance done on time. The only recurring problem it had were the wedge bulbs in the headlights blowing out pretty frequently. I posted about it somewhere before and others said they had the same problem. The lowbeam bulbs were also changed more than expected but that was probably due to the fact that the DRLs on Imprezas for that year used the lowbeam at full power so they were on for those 130k miles. Bottom line is that it's a solid car.
