Are you going to finance? If so, the NSX is out of the question. It is really hard to finance a car older than 2001. If you are not going to finance the NSX is reliable but parts and service are alot more than a "Honda". Good luck on your search.

so your options are:
1) 20 year old RWD mid-engine 2-seater
2) A souped up front wheel drive hatch
or
3) 2.5 door RWD coupe that gets terrible gas mileage

Can i suggest a e30 m3?

Had an NSX as a daily...sold it at 165,000 miles on odo...zero problems, other than window regulator. Now have a new GTI...I'd say either your golden!..and, no on Rx-8 due to MPG.

GTI, most room, comfortable, good power with a few cheap upgrades. If it's a shared street/track car then RX-8. Gas mileage isn't that bad, slightly worse than my S2000. I think I averaged right at 17 mpg mixed city/highway. Never had any reliability issues and the handling was great. Interior build quality was a bit suspect (some cheap plastics breaking etc).

And you want me to buy a BMW that is more than 20 years old and has less power than the GTI? Big Money Waste indeed!
I took that from the original 2.3 motor with 195 hp.

Don't forget the RX8 is an oil burner also! Just saw the top gear review of the RX8 and Clarkson liked it until he drove it in the rain. He said it was skittish! I drove the RX8 and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would . I kept thinking it would be a good choice with the prices on these dropping like a rock.
What great newer cars I don't see any that has much appeal to me! I dont dig Vettes,350 Z is way too ugly for me,G37 was nice but was boring to drive. STI and EVO insurance is outrageous plus not much into 4 door sedan look. BMW is to much like a german Chevy to me as in past 80 thousand miles these things cost a fortune to keep running. Stangs are too common which only brings me down to 3 possibles - NSX,GTI, or used 911 .
The RX8 burns oil by design. Also, it's like a quart every 1500 miles. Not exactly a deal breaker. You could get 10 mpg in a RX8 and still save thousands compared to your other options because it's about half the price. Not saying you should go for it, just saying gas/oil money shouldn't be the thing that keeps you back.

True, also it uses conventional oil so 2.50 a quart Castrol GTX not 6 dollar a quart Mobil 1/Amsoil etc.
