seen bunches of 4runners 98 and up for 7k plus..I'll have to do some searching. I seem to remember something about headgaskets? Maybe different year. found a manual trans 4runner and hate automatics. Any issues with the auto trans if I run out of good example man.trans to look at?

02 and up pathfinders have better engines?

I just bought a 96 Jeep Cherokee with 125k miles. It's a sea of cheap plastic inside but the thing runs so good, I don't drive my S much anymore. The 4.0 I6 should run for a long time and the solid axles are very simple and strong under normal abuse. The gas mileage is not great but it makes up for it with instant torque off idle. Mine was spotless so I paid a little extra ($4500) but they can be picked up cheap.

Older Toyota 4Runner, maybe? It'd probably be late 90's for that price but they're pretty reliable.
Just make sure the 3.0 v6 has had the head gaskets replaced and there is no head damage.
