Defender 90

that wouldn't be the best idea out in the jungle

England is an island, remember.
FWIW, I'd rather have a $40k Defender 90 than a $100k Hummer H1. Take good care of it, and the D90 is worth 100% or more of its purchase price when you go to sell it. The things originally sold for $38k +/- when new in the late 90s, if I recall correctly. Few other cars have zero or negative depreciation.

d90's are sweet
prob not worth the money, but very cool.
one of the few vehicles in recent times to appreciate above MSRP.
stopped importing them in 95 due to air bag regs which effected 96 trucks (driver side only) and then 97 (both sides).
a jeep will get the job done, arguably better, at a much better price.
but the d90's are pretty damn cool

I've had 2 Range Rovers and I can honestly say they are MONEY PITS. LandRover tries their best to keep the computers on those things locked up tight where all you can do is take it to a dealer. Parts are CRAZY high. I lost over 15k in depreciation and repair bills in a year and 2 months. D90s don't have the depreciation, but if they are anything like Range Rovers, you still will have to get a second mortgage for repairs.
i've always like the defender. it's got a cool, unique design, feels solid, and is a hoot to drive. the thing can corner amazingly flat on paved roads. it's one of those cars that's got a very unique and interesting character and feeling behind the wheels.

One correction though - most people agree the D90 is more effective off-road than the Wrangler TJ. That said I'm keeping mine.
