DEPENDABILITY RANKINGS

This is (by assumption) this year's reliability report from car manufacturers. I was stunt to see any domestic cars, let alone a "Buick", to make it even in the Top 3 or Top 5. Now they got Buick, Cady, and Mercury at the same time. I don't know about you guys, but I think the drivers (old people) of these brands are too old to know when there is a problem with their cars.

By the way, old people drive Lexuses.

Why are people acting like this is some radical thing that just happened. A few years back Consumer Reports listed the Buick Century as the most reliable car in the US. It beat out the Camry and Accord among others.
Certainly Buick has a very narrow line up so they don't have to get many cars to be reliable. The Century was reliable in part because it was so old that GM had plenty of time to work out the bugs. Still that doesn't mater if your objective is reliability.
The fact is the quality gap between the domestics and top Japanese is very small. When we look at limited range brands like Mercury and Buick it's surprise they do well.
More importantly, it's time to start questioning the idiotic belief that only Japanese companies (or according to some Honda and Toyota only) can build reliable cars.

I don't know if anyone has taken this into account:
Buick- fairly comfortable cars with no driving thrill whatsoever, that usually never see 70mph on the open road.
Lexus- all models are somewhat sporty, and IS line is a true sports compact, meant to be enjoyed.
Nobody thinks the way in which the cars are used matters?
How far would an S2000 go without problems if you always shifted at 4k RPM and never got past 70mph? Oh, and you took right turns at 10mph?
All sporty brands get lower ratings. It's just what happens.

Sometimes GMs technicality to get ahead makes me laugh.
