Thumbs up Do I really need a Power Commander?

I just bought a leo vince full exhaust for my 954. I was told by the local bike shop that whenever you install an exhaust system (Full or slip-on), you have to re-map your air/fuel ratio. Otherwise, the bike will run very lean, and it will hurt the motor over time. I called one of the exhaust companies and asked them if I needed a power commander, they told me it's not necessary, but recommeded. I wanted an exhaust system mostly for sound and looks. I don' really need performance gains at this time, but I don't want to do any damage to the motor or lose HP.

A full exhaust will lean out a carbureted bike quite a bit, the fuel injection on the 954 can compensate somewhat, It's not going to hurt your motor.

With a full exhaust you will gain high RPM power at the expense of low and midrange. A slip on would have been a better choice.

A PC can really help with mid range and smoothness (that was the main reason I bought one). The next step is to get a custom map done (Dyno tuned)

That said, a 954 is super fast, you may not to notice any drop in power, but you may notice a flat spot or some hesitation.

If you can afford the exhaust, you can afford and should have the Power Commander installed and custom mapped (dynoed). It will improve your throttle response and smooth out the power delivery( as if it wasn't good enough already.) It will also help flatten out the aforementioned dip in the mid range that all 4 cylinder sport bikes seem to have. If you really want to notice a difference on the bike put some magnesium Marchesini wheels on it.

couldn't agree more.... i just ordered a set for my R6.....

you don't really need a PC unles its a full exhaust. slips on's don't change your curve enough to have the need for a PC. especially on a newer fuel injected bike

you can make up the power by buying some of those wheels.
seriously, it wont hurt anything. but it could slightly improve the smoothness and performance. but all that mumbo jumbo was already stated above. its your choice.

If you are still planing on running a FULL system, yes it will hurt the engine, esp. if coupled with a free flowing air filter like a K&N. Since you are just looking for sound, get a slip on if you don't want to get a power commander.
