You gotta pay to play and I wanna play Porsche as my next car so I really appreciate the input. I say if you're playing big ball like that, you shouldn't really flinch at $200 oil changes. so the fact that the nsx costs less for maintenance really makes it no better in my eyes. although i trust that tan will go the classy mod way and make that car look bling with style.
I love the looks of the 996 and I'm not too crazy about the turbo look of the new C4S. it looks awkward. From what I see through my subjective eyes, the 993 C4S with the factory aero kit has got to be the nicest looking Porsche out there. But I must admit the 996 with the factory body kit treatment and some bigger sized, deep dished wheels looks realllly sharp.
is the 993 series really that much less reliable than the 996s? i'm thinking the pricing will be pretty much with the 993 holding value better.
if the 996 is feeling slow to you, you've gotta be one helluva driver. the s2000 is too much for 99.99 percent of the people on this board. i think what you're getting at is that it's not that much faster than what $30K worth will get you in speed. i know that the 996 manuals aren't that much faster than s2000s in a straightline, much oh so much more $$$.
but you can't beat classy porsche floss and the sound of that engine. good buy, my friend! just don't keep it stock. add a lil somethin

Fanman,
Nice car, thanks for the pictures. I like the polished wheels too!
As for maintenance issues, I bought a water cooled 928 GT a few years ago and it was a maintenance nightmare, but I think it was the dealer who was useless in tying to get it fixed properly. At the time we had no independent non-Porsche franchise workshops in the UAE (now there is one in Dubai-about 150 kms from Abu Dhabi), so I got fed up of them not being able to fix it and I traded it in for an Audi TT Quatro 225, which I enjoyed for 18 months before my s2k.
As for the 996, I understand that they are far, far better. My nephew has a 2000 996C2 and he hasn't complained about the service so far.
As for my brother getting stuck with the narrow body, I agree, though he doesn't care as much. For me, I really like the wider rear end, the fake vents, the lowered (lbeit just a touch) stance, the strip linking the rear lights of the C4S. Dunno maybe I have a rear end fetish and should get some s2k driving therapy. If I end up getting a Porsche, it would be a C4S, however in the same price range there is a nice 993 TT. Choices, choices makes life interesting...

Yeah, it was a lot of money to part with, but everybody at one time in their lives should have the opportunity to drive Porsche & Ferrari.
