The new MX5 is nice, but cannot keep up with the S!
At a starting price of nearly $14,000 less, what do you expect? It was not and never will be designed to compete with the S. Regardless, it's been around for almost 20 years and I bet it will out live the S2000 given the rate which Honda retires models. Mazda has had a lot of practice designing that roadster. It's going to take more than GM slapping something together to join the recent roadster rage to make a better car. Unfortunately, the average person won't care and the decision will be a matter of looks, price tag and/or being an American car vs foreign (some people just won't buy a Japanese car). One of the many things Mazda has going for themselves is that they are used to cranking out over 25,000 Miata's a year and sell just about all of them. You will not see many dealer markups on them compared to the Solstice and I think that is going to hurt GM's sales quite a bit.
i got a chance to drive the MX-5 (miata)...i gotta say mazda did a GREAT job with the vehicle.....the perfect amount of power to really go 9/10's without getting yourself killed and great handling and tranny. They really did a nice job with the exterior and the interior too....

I hate to break it to your GM bashers, but GM has a lot of appealing products out there right now. Name a Japanese manufacturer that has more than 1 or 2 EXCITING products that you WANT to own?
I can't really think of any..
Toyota- Nothing
Honda - S2000, NSX
Nissan - maybe 350Z/G35 Coupe
Subaru - Sti
Mitsubishi - Evo
GM - C6, Z06, GTO, CTS-V, STS-V, XLR-V, maybe Cobalt SS
I rest my case.

I find Japanese products, such as Honda/Toyota, tend to make ALL of their cars great (some minor exceptions). They don't flood the market with tons of crappy models and only a few good ones. You can put your resources to a bunch of mediocre to poor products with a few good, or you can make all of them good. Personally I'd rather see GM concentrate their resources on making fewer products better.
last weekend GM had a test drive center..
They had solo course set up
it was fun to tear around the corners in first
DRIFTING
Yes the soltice was a Plastic car ... did not like that
Trunk suxs.... no space
I did the same in new GTO
I was there 5 hours tearing up the cars for free...
