E39 M5 or S2000
I found a 2000 BMW m5 in Blue Water Metallic (A color I quite like) for sale here in Ontario for 15,900 with 145,000kms(Somewhat worried about that).
I've always loved the e39 M5 and I finally got to see one up here in Sudbury, Ontario at a Mazda dealership. The seats are in great condition, engine sounds absolutely amazing, there's tons of gadgets, everything's electronic and it's incredibly fast. The insurance will be cheaper on this than an S2000, it'll be better for the winters here in Ontario, it fits more people(only needed for like double dates or going to the beach, but I can always get my friends to take their own cars) and it sounds and goes like hell.
The S2000 on the other hand is nimble, light, better on gas, I'm assuming a lot cheaper for maintenance, but then insurance costs will be a lot higher than a four door sedan, and of course the cops will love pulling over a 19 year old in a convertible sports car, compared to a baby blue sedan. I can also pick up a 02-03 with less than 120,000kms for 13-14,000, compared to 145,000kms and 15,900.
I know it's somewhat a weird comparison but help me out, can some of you give me your experiences with the e39's reliability.

I've heard M3's are prone to problems, and besides an M3 will run me 20 grand, even with high mileage. I'm either getting a 2 seater or a 4 door sedan, I hate having a coupe(I drive a 97 civic coupe) and it's a pain getting people in and out of the back.
If it's a replacement for the S2000 you may be sorry and miss owning a sports car. If it's a replacement for the Civic you should do it! For reference I just sold my S2000 which was only doing DD duties and replaced it with a BMW 335i coupe 6MT and it's WAY better for that purpose.
I'd be giving my little brother the Civic, and moving up to the S2k or the M5, the M5 will cost me 2,500-3,000 more to BUY and then gas is more expensive and yearly maintenance costs will be more than the S2000, but I then have 7 points on my license out of the possible 9 I have on my G2(I should get my G, aha)
Either car will be my DD, I don't mind driving a stiff car like the S2000, sure Sudbury roads are some of the worst, with pot holes and manhole covers EVERYWHERE, I've learned to know where they are. The only thing that's making me want the M5 more than the S2000 and the engine, and the power. I'd love to pass someone and for them to just hear the V8 rumble, but I mean an S2000 isn't too bad in the sound department either.

Well since you are looking for opinions, and I get to spend imaginary money for you, I'm advising you to buy the M5.
M5 at the age of 19, when you're doing a lot with friends and commuting to work/school, is a look of professionalism. The M5 is just way more practical and actually on my list of "I want to own one".
From my experience, I loved having a 4-door sedan when I was your age. I gave up a two seater CRX-Si for an Accord. A far cry from an M5, but my point is that the 4 door at the time was a better choice for me and my activities.
As for the reliability of the M5, it depends how the car has been cared for during its life. A well cared for M5 is more reliable than a thrashed S2k. Just because the S2k is a Honda doesn't make it more reliable than the M5 you are looking at. You got to find service histories on both, have mechanics look at them, and make a decision based on what you learn.
Good luck to you which ever way you go. I'm twice your age and still don't have an M5...my day is coming!

Went to the dealer to find out about financing on the M5 and they sold it today. So the S2000 is my only choice.
About the "being 19 and needed practicality for friends", I don't actually like having passengers in my car. I hate driving people around. I'm not one to party, I don't smoke, don't do drugs and barely drink, so I never have more than one passenger in the car, unless movies or mall.

You could also look for a 540i with the sport package.
In 2003 they looked similar to the M5, just different wheels and of course a different engine. But the 4.4 V-8 in the 540 does have plenty of power.

I'm thinking about buying a pickup truck, but I don't haul anything, or tow and dislike how they look and handle but I need to comfortably seat 5 people.
