Well here in CA, the solution for that bump in the road is illegal, and 5-6k worth of mods is expensive.

ha, and I'd say that's pretty typical
with each generation a turbo system was added, it became more complicated, emissions restictions grew tighter, and the whole mess became more of a heat sink....turbocharged rotaries themselves are not inherently bad, but hanging a bunch of restrictive cats on them, with a stubbornly inflexible ECU, TINY intercooler and cheap radiator, is a formula for disaster
some people hit a bump in the road and give up on great things, but that's their loss

The Rx-8 was a disappointment and never really attracted the same crowd the FD did.
The most fun Rx-7 I ever owned was the GSLSE. It was light simple and handled great. In it's day the car was magical. I think it's hard for mazda to capture the same magic today with another Rx-7.

Actually Mazda gave up on it when they stopped making the RX-7. People moved on to other cars.

The one thing that all rx7s have going for them though is the relatively low engine cost, I was absolutely flabbergasted when I first priced used 13B turbos engine sets, I mean some turbos cost more new.

used might be cheap, but who wants that? a new FD crate engine from Mazda is about $5000

I'd love to see a 3 rotor NA RX7... it still wouldn't be a torque monster, but with 300-350 hp it'd be a nice alternative to the 370z. What it lacked in the engine department it could easily compensate for with nimblesness and handling. Still haven't driven the 370z, but the 350z compared to the RX8 was like a blunt instrument versus a scalpel.
