I like it. I have said since they came out that if I were in college (and could afford one), I would LOVE it. Even in high school, it would have served it's purpose well. I like the look to a point, but am not in the market to buy one.

[quote name='Dr. WOT' date='Feb 3 2005, 07:36 AM'] I'm digging the 05 Xtera for a utility focused SUV. The key selling point is the VQ based 4.0L v6 with roughly 265hp 275lb ft, and the option for a manual tranny. Similar hose-it-down interior, but much better off road specs than the Element. Being smaller than most v8 SUVs it should move out at least as well with that big ol v6. Plus it has beater appeal

i think the element is great

i don't really mind the look (even the plastic panels)

but isn't it a 4 seater? it should be big enough for 5, right?

It is a 4 seater because the seats are split in the middle and they didn't put in a 5th seatbelt - because they couldn't do a shoulder strap. In Japan, they come with a middle lap belt.

We looked into buying one for its truck capabilities. After doing some research, we learned the payload capacity is around 500lbs including passengers. So, it turns out it is a car with a big hole in the middle more than it is a cargo van.

I actually haven't compared them too closely, but I do love the new styling. I'm guessing the Pathy is more expensive? IIRC, the Xterra is supposed to MSRP around $21,000, with only the one engine choice. I don't need anything fancy in an SUV, just funtionality and balls.

I agree these are 2 great choices, they have Honda covered on power, and Toyota covered on price.
The Pathfinder starts around $25k. Add about $2k if you want 4x4. The Freelander that someone else mentioned starts at $27.5k.

I kinda like the look of it myself.

I've been thinking of leasing one as a second vehicle, but Honda's lease rates (in Canada anyhow) are horrible... still on the fence on this one.
