Wow david, that stinks. My dad's company car is a Tblazer he got it new in 02 and put 130k on it with minimal problems. We did have the taillight recall and a power steering pump replaced thats it, otherwise it has been fine. I swear with these GM's its hit or miss with the quality on these things.
Must depend on what plant it comes out of. There are three plants that make the Trailblazer, Envoy, Buick, Saab, twins.

Honestly, the only trailblazer I can recommend is the SS. Holy crap that thing was the most fun SUV I've ever driven, and I've driven pretty much everything.

The steering was very good, the handling was also good for an SUV, the brakes were strong and the power was phenomenal.

Just ask the guy in the 5 series I dropped on the on ramp. Didn't know what he was dealing with.

But a regular TB is a mere appliance - go Element.

If a Trailblazer is an appliance, WTF is an Element - an uber-appliance?!?

Umm. Good point. Therefore I revise it to Trailblazer SS, otherwise FJ Cruiser with manual trans.

I have rented a few Trailblazers and was quite pleased with them. I am renting a Caddy SRX right now and I am impressed how far GM has come. I test drove last the last generation CRV, and it seemed like a lifted Civic, not a good thing. I cannot comment on the Element, but by the looks of it, I would not want to drive it due to size and power. I have driven GM products well beyond 125k without major issues and they seem to keep running. Go with the Trailblazer if you want to keep it for a while, otherwise go with the Element for the short term as the cost of ownership will most likely be lower.

We are selling my wife's Xterra; 2000, SE, V6, 4x4 all maintenance, even overpriced OEM BFGs replaced recently. Seriously, this thing runs and shifts like new, even gets better mileage than when new. Sorry to Jack.
