i would have to agree with the BMW driver..... there are way too many a-holes in america that either stay in the left lane due to not paying attention, or are just pricks that try to hold up traffic.
I had some dickbag at lunch do the same thing...i flashed my lights 2 times and beeped....then i went to the right to pass him and he floored it....I gave him a thumbs up as i drove past (evo > his car)

Apart and A Part mean 2 very different things...

yep.. drive right and pass left... In my area of the country you always end up doing the opposite.. There is often a line of cars behind one slow can and usually plants of slow cars within the same line. So that once one slow car finally decides to get over the line never completely passes it, so you end up having to weave through traffic.

You know, you may think its dumb ... but I'm originally from NJ ... and thats actually the law. Check your state's DMV rulebook, you might be surprised. The law in NJ is to stay right unless passing. Now obviously a cop isn't going to pull you over in rush hour for driving in the left lane. But I have seen people being pulled over for driving on an empty highway in the left lane. Its probably harder to enforce in the rest of the country since NJ is just about the only place that uses jughandles for most exits (so there's very very few left hand turns on a major highway).
In general in NJ, people keep to the left unless you're driving faster than the middle or right lanes. Its not always the case, but down here in VA I see people driving 10 under the speed limit in the left hand lane ... probably using the excuse that they're going to be making a left hand turn in 20 minutes from now to justify driving in the left lane. Either that or they're on a cell phone a totally oblivious to whats going on.

In my book someone who drives slow in the fast lane (slow = someone wants to go faster, and you are not yourself behind another person) is just as bad as someone who tailgates. So I do get pretty pissed when someone won't move over. Especially (as is so often the case on 880 here in the bay area) when they are going like 60 in the far left lane and have no fsking reason to be in the fast lane.
Poor driver education is to blame...but that's obvious.
